Gretsch Guitars - G6120T-59 Vintage Select Edition '59 Chet Atkins Hollow Body with Bigsby - Vintage Orange Stain Lacquer
Description
There was no more iconic Gretsch player in the late 1950s than Chet Atkins. Whether it was accompanying the Carter Family on the Grand Ole' Opry or honing his session chops in Nashville, this guitar icon was working closely with Gretsch in New York to refine this premium archtop model. At Chet's request the western motif on the earlier 6120s was toned down, while still retaining the horseshoe headstock inlay as a nod to the previous versions - which became a lasting aesthetic change.
Fast forward to today, this Vintage Select reissue of Atkin's 6120 harkens back to the iconic 1959 edition with a host of vintage specs and appointments. Featuring a pair of TV Jones Filter'Tron Classics, one of the most faithful recreations of the '50s Great Gretsch Sound, this archtop sports '59-spec trestle bracing for the that responsive, airy projection and snap.
Subtle touches like the zero fret, nitro finish and full body, neck and headstock binding spruce up what was a premium model in the world of guitars in 1959. As at home swinging through some Country Gentelman fingterstyle Atkins licks as it is rocking out with the Rockabily crowd, this 6120 is an iconic guitar.
