He was the first Salesman ever hired by the Legendary Vintage Guitar Retail Store Mandolin Brothers in 1978. In addition Charlie authored the 1995 book "Dream Guitars Illustrated" and produced two Vintage Guitar Trading Card sets "Classic American Guitar Cards" and "Cool American Guitar Cards Vol. II" in 1993. After working for various musical Instrument Manufacturers throughout the 80's & 90's Charlie started Gothic City Guitars In 1999. This year marks Gothic City Guitars' 20th Year in Business.

We then decided to concentrate on sales directly from the website and closed our store in 2010. Everything remains the same except the drive to work. We have not had anything returned since 2000. It began with fixing everything I could find as a little kid, gaining tool skills and woodworking and machine skills along the way, and knowledge of processing all kinds of natural materials (wood, metal, plastics, glass and more) for manufacturing processes. Having also grown up in the music world since infancy, building and rebuilding musical instruments came naturally in my teenage years and by the time I was fourteen or so I had started working on fretted instruments, my first love. Restoring Martins and making electric guitars were natural ways to go and I was off on a tear, doing it professionally by the time I was seventeen. Opening my store came about five years later, doing all the repairs myself, and on to running the business for the next forty-eight years, finally deciding to close the retail end and keeping our long-since internationally-acclaimed repair department open. While we have closed the retail floor of the store, our guitar restoration and repair department remains open, by appointment, serving New Yorkers and musicians from all over the world in the same location that the store had been in for the last forty years. Hi! I'm Larry Wexer. I've been in the vintage instrument field for over 30 years but came to it by a somewhat circuitous route.I play mandolin, guitar and harmonica and have played or recorded with the Dillards, the Sons of the Pioneers,Grandpa and Ramona Jones,Alan Munde, Peter Wolf, Roy Clark,Jimmy Vivino, The Chieftains, and others. All this and an M.A. in Ethnomusicology from Indiana University and here I am selling guitars. I've also written some articles,and book chapters in "Guitars of the 50s "and " Acquired Of The Angels ".Through my years of experience I feel that I have learned what makes a good musical instrument as well as what is "original" or not. I try to represent the instruments I sell as accurately as I can. Ultimately the idea is to play and enjoy these wonderful vintage instruments for what they are historically , as things of beauty and as functional tools. Happy Playing!

Owner Buzzy Levine has been repairing stringed instruments since 1968 and supervises our repair shop. With Ian Davlin's protege Tom Sherm heading up this facility we are able to provide customers with very accurate instrument evaluations, repairs and restorations Complete restorations of vintage acoustics is our specialty. Fret jobs, Neck-sets, masterful touch-ups are all done in-house. Accurate Gig-Ready set-ups in a very timely manner is also what we provide. We want you to be happy in dealing with us long distance. Our specialty is Martin guitars and other Flattops, Arched top Jazz guitars, and old Gibson & Fender electrics. Martin Repair Center since 1983, until the state of NJ caused Martin to axe all 5 of it's Warrantee Centers in New Jersey. Write and complain to someone!
