Vintage Guitars from the Blues Capital of the World
While we do not operate a brick-and-mortar store, we do have over 40 years of experience in buying, selling and collecting vintage guitars, as well as selling other desired and collectible objects online. We are fortunate to have the opportunity to offer guitars from the collections of several of our former customers, current associates and working musicians. And while we consider ourselves "educated" about guitars, we are hardly "experts", so if you see or read something that doesn't quite seem right, please let us know. We will look into it and totally appreciate the feedback! A LITTLE HISTORY... In December of 1980, I saw an ad in the Musical Instrument classified section of the Saturday Chicago Sun-Times. The whole listing read "Les Paul Goldtop. $400". I already had one Les Paul (69 Custom, paid $650, still have it), but if one is good, two is better. I had the cash, I checked it out, rectangular case, it looked decent, so it bought it. Later that afternoon, Jim Beach at Wooden Music offered me $1,200 for it. Turns out, it was a 69 Les Paul Deluxe in great condition with its original gold-lined rectangular case (still have it). Jim pointed to his wall; he had a 68 Deluxe hanging there for $1,500. (That was the day I learned something about 68-69 Gibson headstocks.) 1980 was ending, the serial number was 81 and four 7s, an omen! That day, I was bitten by the bug, and infected for a lifetime! I've spent the last two decades seeking out great musical instruments for myself and for my close friends. I'm excited to now be able to do this for people outside of my immediate circle. This pursuit is an obsession & labor of love for me. It brings me profound joy when I find an instrument that speaks to me, and it has been equally rewarding to find instruments for friends that have become both their working tools and sources of inspiration. I'm offering banjos & guitars from my personal collection that I've used on stage and in the studio that are now finally ready to move on to their next caretakers. I'm also offering vintage banjos that I've personally setup for tone, responsiveness and playability. While these instruments may not be ones you've seen me with on stage, or heard on my recordings, these are instruments that I've acquired because they excite me and simply pass the test. If I find a gem that sounds and plays beautifully- a special instrument that truly engages me, I'll buy it knowing that it will either become a fixture of my collection or that I will be able to eventually match it with the right player. Welcome. I have been a professional retail Vintage Instrument vendor since 1984. My previous business was known as Guitars R Us, which was a well-established and well-known brick and mortar vintage guitar store that I owned and operated in Los Angeles, CA. During the time I was open in Hollywood, I had a thriving local business, as well as many International customers, guests and visitors, many of whom I established long-term relationships with, which continue today. At the tail end of 2001, I decided to close my retail store. Since that time, I have worked privately inside the music industry, primarily as a much-needed expert vintage musical instrument vendor, appraiser, and consultant for many artists and friends.
