Description

Introducing the Opaque Drive by Substation Onyx. "Why Another Overdrive? Necessity is the mother of invention, and as a player, I had a lot of needs. I use overdrives to boost high-gain amplifiers, saturate classic British amplifiers, and add pleasant dirt to vintage clean amplifiers. After fruitless searching for an overdrive that checked all of these boxes, I decided to build my own overdrive, which not only could accomplish all these sounds, but could do it all without changing the pedal settings. This is the ultimate set-and-forget, do-it-all overdrive." - Aric Fowler The Opaque Drive houses two independent overdrive circuits: Silver & Gold. Either is capable of handling all the roles mentioned above on its own, but they are separate designs intended to complement each other and offer players an entirely new dimension of flexibility. Silver focuses on your guitar’s frequency voicing so you can dial in as much low end punch and mid-range bite as you want. It has a single, amp-like distortion flavor that preserves your transients instead of compressing them down like most overdrives. Gold offers a sampler of different distortion flavors and a more traditional tone control, which allows it to fulfill a variety of roles. Together, any overdrive sound from a clean boost to a doomer-style distortion can be found within these two, stackable circuits. Both circuits are as loud as you will ever need, but careful engineering ensures that any added noise is minimal.
