2023 Martin 0000-28 Sunburst 12 fret Gruhn Custom Order
Description
The "Gruhn Special" designation refers to specific custom specifications requested by George Gruhn of Gruhn Guitars in Nashville, Tennessee, and built by Martin. These models typically incorporate vintage-inspired features not found on standard production models.
• Body Size: This is normally an M size, or 0000-12 Fret, body size, which is slightly smaller than a Dreadnought and known for a balanced tone.
• Top Material: The Gruhn Special models feature an upgraded, non-torrefied Adirondack spruce top for enhanced response and projection, as opposed to the standard Sitka spruce.
• Back/Sides Material: It uses solid East Indian rosewood for the back and sides, a standard feature for Style 28 Martins, contributing to a rich tone.
• Bracing: The bracing pattern is a foreword braced X shape for increased volume and responsiveness with scalloped Adirondack bracing.
• Neck is a low oval profile at 1-13/16” width
• Appointments: It features classic Style 28 appointments such as bold herringbone top inlay and a "zipper" back purfling, with some custom variations potentially including 45-style snowflake inlays on the fingerboard.
As these are custom, limited-run instruments with upgraded features, they can be highly sought after by collectors and players. The value is typically higher than a standard 000-28 due to the custom shop nature and premium materials like the Adirondack top. Very close if not Mint!!! OHSC for a 0000 size.
