1972 Martin D-35 w/original hard case, excellent

Description

'72 D-35 (#311061)...Rosewood back and sides, Sitka spruce top, mahogany neck with ebony fret board and bridge.  The guitar is in excellent condition cosmetically and structurally and in terms of playability.  The finish shows only the slightest signs of handling or play wear with some superficial pick marks at the bass side of the sound hole but little else.  The frets show slight wear in the first position but do not require any intervention currently.  There is an old repair quotation document from Martin dating to 1976 that indicates that the factory replaced the bridge and repaired a back crack, pick guard crack.  It is likely that the back was oversprayed at that time as the crack (repair) is completely invisible and under finish.  The pick guard was replaced at Kovacik Guitars several years ago, at which time the bridge plate received a narrow maple cap to deal with worn pin holes, a strap button hole was plugged and touched up and some binding was reglued as well.  The neck profile is typical for a 70s Martin, a rounded "C" shape that is comfortable with a 1 11/16" nut width. The action is set at 7/64" at the low E and 5/64" at the high E with about 5/64" of saddle showing.  The pin spacing at the bridge is 2 1/8." The angle of the neck is marginal, it will need a reset in the coming years, but currently the playability is good all the way up the neck, particularly for flat picking.  The neck is very straight with minimal relief.  Tonally the guitar is excellent, more robust than many 35s, can be flat picked aggressively without becoming muddy or inarticulate.  Balanced voice across the range of the guitar.  Sound file available on request if the posted sound file doesn't work for you.  Comes with original blue hard case which is in very good condition with all the latches, hinges, handle and accessory box present and functional.  $2950 plus shipping. NYS buyers add 8% sales tax. Ships to US destinations only, no international shipping offered. Message me with your town and zip for a shipping quote. Feel free to message me with any questions you may have about the guitar, and thanks for your interest.
