1964 Fender Custom Telecaster – Crushed Glass (Ex George Fullerton)
Description
This 1964 Fender Custom Telecaster, in its original “crushed glass” finish, is a sparkling treasure. This finish was devised especially for Buck Owens and fellow Buckaroos’ guitar player Don Rich. Both Owens and Rich can be seen playing their matching Telecasters on various television shows throughout the 1960s. A third was made for Fender Executive George Fullerton, and that example is the one we have here now (two more were also made, five total)! The finish has a very textured feel, as it is made with actual mirror glass that has been crushed to achieve this appearance. The headstock also features this same finish. The finish has patina’d since then to a more golden hue, but still sparkles in the light. Both the top and bottom of the body are bound with “cowboy rope” patterned binding that just takes it to another level. Although we can’t be sure, it is rumored that these Telecasters featured the first maple cap necks Fender made. If you’re looking for that ultimate Tele showpiece, this is the one for you!
