Mesa Boogie Mark IIC+ DRG SimulClass 1x12 Combo Bubinga Hardwood Cab, Wicker Grille

Description

No sales tax for US customers outside California.

The Mesa Boogie Mark IIC+ is not just a great amplifier — it's one of the most coveted and consequential guitar amps ever built. Mesa produced fewer than 3,000 of them during a 14-month production window from early 1984 to mid-1985, and the fully loaded examples — SimulClass power section, five-band graphic EQ, reverb, and an exotic hardwood cabinet — are the rarest and most desirable of the bunch. This Bubinga hardwood combo with wicker grille is exactly that: a fully optioned IIC+ in one of the most striking cabinet configurations Mesa offered. These don't come up often, and when they do, serious players and collectors pay attention.

Condition

Amp is in beautifully clean, fully working condition. The amp was serviced by Mike B at Boogie last year. After we received it, I noticed that one volume pot was not working quite right. It went back to Mike and he fixed it - replacing the pot. We tested all the pots and tube sockets and tested all the tubes.

All controls function correctly, both channels perform as they should, and the SimulClass switching operates properly. The Bubinga cabinet is [describe condition — any checking, dings, repairs]. Wicker grille is [intact / shows light wear / has small area of damage]. Speaker is original EVM-12L. [Add any additional notes on tubes, recent service, etc.]

A Bit of History

Randall Smith founded Mesa Engineering in 1969, starting out by hot-rodding Fender Princetons in a music shop in San Francisco. Carlos Santana famously played one of those early modded amps and declared, "This little amp really boogies" — and the brand name was born. The Mark series evolved through the late '70s and early '80s, with each iteration refining the cascading gain preamp design Smith had pioneered. The Mark IIC+ arrived in February 1984 as the culmination of that development — a revised lead channel with a dual cascading drive stage that produced what players quickly came to call "liquid lead" tone: compressed, singing, harmonically complex high-gain sustain that no other amp quite replicated. James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett used IIC++ versions (a factory-upgraded variant with additional gain) to record Metallica's Master of Puppets — arguably the most influential heavy metal album ever made — and the amp's legend was sealed. John Petrucci of Dream Theater, Steve Lukather, Michael Landau, Dean Parks, and Prince (on the Purple Rain tour and throughout the mid-'80s) all used IIC+ rigs. The SimulClass power section — running two 6L6s in Class A/B simultaneously with two EL34s in Class A — added a distinctive warmth and complexity to the power stage that straight Class A/B versions lack. The Bubinga hardwood cabinet was Mesa's premium cosmetic option, far more labor-intensive to produce than standard tolex, and it makes a fully loaded IIC+ like this one a genuine collector's piece as well as a world-class playing instrument. Mesa built fewer than 3,000 Mark IIC+ amps during its original 14-month run, and prices on the vintage market have soared — Reverb.com listings range from $5,000 for a basic 60-watt combo to $15,000 and up.

Excerpts from real online user forums and reviews

"I still have my Mesa Boogie MK IIC+ SimulClass I bought in 1984 after they first came out. It took me quite a while to figure it out and after I did it changed everything for me. It is the most versatile and toneful amp you will ever have the pleasure to play." — Fractal Audio Systems Forum
"The Mark IIC+ is probably the most collectible Boogie, because the circuitry had been refined to what many consider optimal settings, yet it's still simple to operate. Boogies with wood cabinets are much more valuable than those with vinyl coverings." — Premier Guitar
"A C+, with or without SimulClass, is pure sonic bliss. The SimulClass tends to smooth things out and add warmth — on the Black Album and after, it was all Boogie. You can't hear an ounce of Marshall in there." — Mesa Boogie Amp Forum
"The IIC+ is beloved for its dazzling dynamic clean tones, smooth singing compressed high-gain solo voices, and its gut-punching maximum gain metal rhythm tones. It remains the most coveted and valuable Mesa/Boogie amp ever made." — Guitar World
"I picked up a JP2C for gigging and keep the IIC+ for recording at home. Going from memory of the Synergy, I think they are similar, but the Boogie just has something extra nice to it — it absolutely blows me away every time I plug in." — Fractal Audio Systems Forum
Fully loaded, exotic hardwood cabinet, SimulClass power section — this is the rarest and most desirable configuration of one of the most important guitar amplifiers ever produced. Ships fully insured, packed with the care a piece like this deserves.

Shipping policy:

When you purchase this item you are hereby agreeing to this shipping policy. We remove tubes from amps that could be damaged in shipping. These cases require the buyer to re-install them on delivery - it is very easy with this amp, and we label them so you know exactly where to put them. We remove the chassis of amps with heavy transformers and ship them separately as their weight can distort the chassis if the box is dropped in shipping. We remove heavy speakers from amps as they can crack baffles, especially amps with particle board chassis. These cases require customers to reassemble amps. It also costs us more. The shipping cost is higher as a result. We do this because we have experienced shipping issues in the past, and this is our prevention measure. Vintage amps are sold as-is because they can need service intermittently. Everything is tested here in our shop on the way into our inventory, and again before shipping. We will cover shipping damage, but we cannot be responsible for the failure of vintage components in 20-to-50-plus year old amps. Shipments will require signature on delivery, no exceptions. If there is damage, the buyer must retain all packing materials intact and picture them immediately and send them to . Less than 1% of our shipments are damaged in transit, and we are committed to making sure your item arrives safely, but we are taking these additional measures to make sure you are happy with your purchase.
