1992 Gibson Custom Shop 1959 Korina Explorer "Aged by Tom Murphy with DMC Parts"
Description
In 1992, when the Gibson Custom Shop Division was founded, the Historic Collection Series was conceived as a new line to recreate the golden age of Gibson guitars for the modern era.
The first commemorative model released was not the Les Paul, but this “Korina Modernistic Guitar.”
Only a handful of the original Flying V and Explorer models were ever produced during 50's, Gibson reproduced them in extremely limited quantities in early 90's.
The exceptional craftsmanship of the body, faithfully recreating the rare Korina wood with the same original wood selection and construction, goes without saying.
Gibson's commitment to the “Historic Collection Series” was made abundantly clear to the market, and its high price point was truly shocking.
This one was aged by Tom Murphy at his workshop, Guitar Preservation.
A letter from Tom Murphy comes with this guitar prooving the fact.
The pickups have been upgraded from the original 57 Classic to USA-made hand-wound P.A.F. replica double white.
Vintage pots from 60s and Vintage Bumble Bee capacitors are installed instead of originals.
The hardware—gold pickup covers, Tune-O-Matic bridge, lightweight tailpiece, stud bolts—along with the M69 pickup rings, gold hat knobs & pointers, pickup selector tip, and Kluson-style peg buttons—have been replaced with parts from DMC, renowned for their authentic vintage replica components.
Price: 3,190,000JPY
Comes with recent Gibson Custom Shop hard cases.
