1961 Fender Jazz Bass "The First Three Knobs"

Description

This is an early-production, slab-neck Jazz Bass with a 3-control knob configuration.

When first released in 1960, it featured a stacked knob assembly, but due to volume and usability issues, it was changed to the now-standard three-knob configuration in late 1961.
However, by mid-1962 the fingerboard became rounded, meaning the three-knob slab neck was actually only produced for about a year or more less.
The fact makes it an extremely rare Jazz Bass to find.
The neck and body date to October 1961, while the pot date is week 35 of 1961, making this one of the very earliest Three-Knob specification instruments.

There are signs of strap pin relocation on both the top and bottom, though both are now back in their original positions.
The bottom side shows filled screw holes from when it was moved.
The top side appears to have been attached to the neck joint plate area, as holes were drilled into the original neck plate.
Here, the body wood has been filled and repaired, while the original neck plate is installed.
