1962 Fender Bassman Model 6G6 B Blonde

Description

For sale is a 1962 Fender Bassman, Model 6G6 B Piggy Back matching Head and Cab. This specific iteration of the Brown and Blond Piggy Back Bassman Amps between 1961 and 1963 is generally considered to be the most desirable since the bugs found in earlier versions were corrected. The circuit of the 6G6 B is highly desired for its presence control. It is this model that Brian Setzer of the Stray Cats is quoted numerous times as saying it is his favorite amp. Many others, the likes of John Fogerty and Tom Petty have chosen this model.
Having been a one owner, this amp is exceptionally clean without any snags or tears in the tolex or grille cloth and all original cabinet hardware is still shiny without pitting or rust. The face plate is nice and clear without wear. It has obviously not been a road amp or played out of the house but it has been thoroughly gone through and more than ready to hit the road or blow up the studio.
The cab is loaded with the original matching pair of 12” Oxford 12M6 speakers. I have had the head thoroughly inspected and gone through to be brought up to maximum performance by an excellent amp tech shop in St. Louis. They replaced weak or bad tubes and caps. Other than that it is completely original and sounds amazing. I did not have the original 2 prong Power Cord changed because it is in excellent condition and I figure if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. As long as performance is not compromised I like them as original as possible. The date code on the label places it as Aug. 1962.
This amp gives a killer fat, crunchy overdrive with a really nice tight and quick response that is aided by the solid-state rectifier as well as a glassy clean sound at lower volume. The 2 6L6’s in the 50 watt power plant gives it lots of head room. And it is LOUD. Making it a great choice for the guitar. Getting an authentic AC/DC sound is not a problem.
In summary this Amp will scream with the best of them or give you that clean, glass sound under 4-5. It is totally tweaked and ready to go. I have not put a cleaning rag on it but it is obvious that just a little time with soapy water and Armor All will make this thing look nearly new.
I also have a nice, great sounding 59 5F6 A Bassman I will be letting go of.
