1964 Jose Ramirez 1A Spruce/Brazilian Rosewood
Description
Here's a 1964 Jose Ramirez 1A Classical guitar. This incredible example features a Spruce top, stunning Brazilian Rosewood back and sides, with an Ebony fingerboard. It's honestly the most figured and gorgeous Brazilian we've ever seen on a Ramirez. There is not a builder name (initials) on the heal. According to Ramirez, "The lack of initials can point to a few specific origins: The Master: José Ramírez III frequently made the 1a models himself, which naturally lacked assistant/apprentice stamps." They also state that the lack of builder initials is neither inherently better nor worse for the instrument's quality. We assure you, the build quality on this guitar is exceptional.
There's a couple professionally repaired top cracks, including down the center seam, and one to the right of the sound hole. There's an also a tiny repair in the wood next to the fingerboard on the high E side (on the rosette). Everything's completely solid and structurally sound. The tone on this is simply amazing! It's very powerful and responsive. The spruce top delivers beautiful clarity, while the Brazilian Rosewood balances it out with big, full bass response. Coming in at 3lbs 6oz, it's extremely light weight. The nut width measure in at 2 1/8" and is very comfortable. Piece of classical history right here. OHSC!
