2024 Pre-War Guitar Company D-18 Sunburst 12-fret Dread

Description

SN 67008. Gorgeous custom build from Pre-War Guitar Company. This 12-fret dreadnought is something of a mash-up of the two Norman Blake Limited Edition models released a few years ago. It features the ’33-style sunburst of the Blake D-28 paired with the mahogany back and sides of the Blake D-18H. The neck has the familiar C. F. Martin & Co.-style modified V profile with a 1-3/4" nut and 2-3/8" string spacing at the bridge—an exceptionally comfortable setup. A slotted head stock, dot position markers, Waverly tuners, and the long 25.4" scale complete the look of an unobtainable 1933 D-18.

The tone woods and build quality are outstanding. The top is torrified Adirondack spruce trimmed in tortoise celluloid, finished in a warm amber sunburst reminiscent of early ’32–’33 Martins. The finish is very thin, with only light factory checking that gives the guitar a subtle “new old stock” vintage vibe. Honduran mahogany back and sides, also bound in tortoid, round out the package beautifully.

This is a pro-owned and well-played instrument, with light pick swirls on the guard and a small area of mild buckle rash. Even so, the condition is nearly new. It has seen plenty of stage and studio time, and the tone has opened up nicely—big volume with a thunderous low end. Even with the torrified top, it feels like there’s still more headroom to unlock with continued playing.

It comes with its original case from The Original Case Company.
