Martin D1228 1972 - Gloss Natural Lacquer

Description

No. 3258. Includes original hardshell case, Martin Thinline plus 9v active Piezo pickup with instruction folder & warranty card. Only has had 2 owners.

This "time machine" D1228 is in remarkable condition, and we'd call it "vintage mint" except for:

* Martin Thinline Plus 9v active pickup was installed sometime after initial purchase. We just installed a new battery & it works fine. Endpin jack was installed at that time and the original end pin is in the case.

* The 6 on a plate original tuning keys were at some point upgraded to Martin logo individual tuners. A desirable upgrade for sure.

* Strap button was installed at the neck end cap.

The important stuff: The neck is remarkably straight, there's no smoke odor, no fret wear, no cracks, no binding separation, medium low action all the way up the neck with no fret issues. The top is level with no lifting nor sinking. Neck set is perfect. The saddle has adequate break angle for a 12 string with med. low action. Likely lowered at some point, but not overdone...!!!!! (A Unicorn 70's Martin for sure- so well cared for.)

This beauty plays & sounds fabulous, with that full, warm D-28 sound we all love. we are selling her for a lady who is a friend of the shop and vocalist in Jay Wolfe's Swing Jazz Band. She bought it from the original owner in the 70's and had rarely played it since. A collectable 53 year old Martin that's near mint condition. You want a good one? Here ya go.....
