Description

SN:115295. Friends, here is a true bluegrass warhorse—straight, original, and full of honest playwear, and the rich tone you get from a well-seasoned 75-year old vintage Martin. Thanks to a recent refret and neck reset by Mark Tossman, along with thoughtful setup work by Dennis Berck, it may well play as well—or better—than it did when it left the factory.

The Brazilian rosewood is the straight-grained stock Martin prized in the prewar years, paired with a Sitka spruce top that has darkened beautifully with age. Fine checking and well-earned playwear tell the story of a life in music. Everything appears original—finish, bridge, tuners, nut, even the pins—with the only exceptions being the newer frets, saddle and repro tuners (the originals are in the case).

Inside, the sound chamber remains clean and honest, with original braces and bridge plate intact and geometry that is right where it should be. Sonically, this guitar speaks with authority: strong cut, excellent projection, and a deep, melodious bass that anchors the guitar’s voice.
It comes housed in a newer Martin hardshell case.
