1964 Harmony H-165 Mahogany
Description
For Sale is a 1964 Harmony H 165 USA built Auditorium size guitar. These guitars are a well kept secret among many Blues and other genre guitar players. The 15” lower bout, 25”scale, 1 3/4” neck width at the nut, nice full C shaped neck, and coupled with all Solid Mahogany Top, Bottom, sides, and neck have caused many to refer to this specific model Harmony guitar as the “poor man’s Martin 000-17.” The Auditorium size, style guitar has proven to be a very popular choice for its all around versatility and balanced tone. As a most desirable characteristic of solid mahogany guitars it has the clear, focused, and very balanced tone making them a great choice for finger style, strumming, and in the case of this guitar, a super slide guitar. The main construction difference between these and the Martin 000-17 is the bracing pattern. The Martins are X braced and these are ladder braced making for killer acoustic blues guitars. There are also those that convert these to Martin style X bracing which is a personal choice I suppose but no way would I change it. It is structurally very sound with no belly bulging or dipping. The bridge is nice and tight and appears to have never been re-glued. There is a slight lifting of the neck heel as shown in the pictures giving the guitar a higher action (which I like for the slide) but you might want to get a neck re-set. The neck is very straight. The fingerboard and bridge are Brazilian Rosewood. Frets show no significant wear. The original tuners work smoothly. There are no cracks anywhere. No repairs noted anywhere. There are some scuff marks here and there but no deep scratches or gouges. There is a subtle gloss finish on the mahogany. I believe it to be 100% original. $449.00 + shipping. Thank you.
