1957 Gibson Les Paul Standard Goldtop
Description
This is an excellent example of an early 1957 Gibson Les Paul Standard with P-90 pickups serial # 7 0254. The pickups are strong and sound great. The bridge pickup reads 8.18 ohms & the neck pickup reads 8.0 ohms. The guitar weighs 8 lbs. 11 oz. Most of these rare early P-90 Les Paul Standards with P-90’s have the more desirable neck profile that does not get larger and more rounded as the later ’57 & 1958 model Les Paul Standards. Also, note the mix of original single-line and no-line tuners (again from the early 1957 transition period). We call this Goldtop “The Gilbert Goldtop”, as he at some point, engraved his ss# and name on the plastic jack-plate, plastic back control plate, & then just his ss# on the back body of the guitar where the body meets the neck (see photos). There is a mark in between the pickups, a small indention in the fret-board area at the first fret between the g & b string, and the first 3 frets have very minimal fret wear, and the guitar plays out great. There is a slightly lighter faded area on the top where the owner rested his arm when playing. I tried to accent that area in a couple of photos. Overall, the guitar is in excellent 8.5 original condition. The original paperwork, tags, and original 1957 Gibson catalog shown in the photos are all included as well as the original strap, and the near mint original case. This one has definitely has “the vibe”!
