1959 Mosrite Stan Welch Prototype – Redburst

Check out this incredibly early, (circa) 1959 Mosrite Prototype in “Redburst” made for Stan Welch! Mosrite was founded in 1956 by Semie Moseley after he completed apprenticeships under Roger Rossmeisl at Rickenbacker and under Paul Bigsby. During the early years at Mosrite, Semie’s brother Andy sold custom spec’d guitars to popular musicians in Nashville, and we believe Stan Welch was one of these performers. The guitar features a large custom pickguard with the owner’s name inlaid alongside some “crushed glass” inlays. The body appears to be made with maple plywood for a semi-hollow construction, paired with a maple neck with a black lacquered fretboard. The large “crushed glass” inlay on the headstock is incredibly striking, and we can see the original truss rod cover was simply glued in place. The guitar features two Carvin AP-6 pickups that have a clean, jazzy tone. The pickups can be selected using two slide switches, with one volume and one tone control. The guitar plays great and has a unique sound, especially when rolling off the tone! While this guitar shows its age with some playwear, it appears all original except for the nut and tuners. Period-correct tuners are currently on the guitar, although it appears that someone previously installed another set of tuners, leaving extra holes.
