1970 Gibson SG Standard Cherry
Description
Gibson 1970 SG Standard
This 1970 'SG Standard' model has a cherry finish similar to the SG played by AC/DC's Angus Young.
This vintage instrument has a large pickguard, also known as a 'Batwing Guard', with an 'MADE IN USA' engraving. It also has a headstock logo with an 'i' dot, a three-piece mahogany neck with a volute and a narrow-pitch nut.
The following parts have been replaced:
- Pickups: '79 stamped numbered (covers replaced)
- Re-fret
- Tuners
- Pickguard
- Knobs
- Strap pins (including mounting screws)
- Jack
- Pots
- Capacitor: Sprague Vitamin Q
The pickup cavity has been enlarged considerably, revealing evidence of either a previous three-pickup configuration or a potential P-90 pickup installation. Some areas have been filled with putty.
There is also a filled circular hole and touch-up paint near the pickup selector. The guitar shows age-appropriate wear and has a tobacco smell. However, there are no playability issues.
