1965 Vox AC50/4 Mk III Head & 2x12 Cabinet w/ Original Speakers & Trolley
Description
Bay Area Vintage Guitars is proud to present this 1965 UK-made Vox AC50/4 Mk III vintage tube amplifier head and matching 2x12 cabinet with original Vox trolley, Serial Number 6788.
Built during the Jennings Musical Industries (JMI) era in Dartford, Kent, England, this is a highly original example of one of Vox’s most powerful and historically significant mid-’60s amplifiers — recently serviced and fully stage-ready.
The circuit is remarkably original and has been freshly serviced by our techs at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar. All original transformers are intact, along with the full set of original pots. The preamp retains virtually all of its original signal capacitors and resistors, preserving the amp’s authentic mid-’60s tonal character.
It is increasingly rare to find an AC50 of this era with this level of originality while also being properly maintained for reliable performance.

Condition & Tone
This 1965 UK-made Vox AC50/4 Mk III head and matching 2x12 cabinet are in excellent overall condition, showing only light, honest cosmetic wear consistent with age. The tolex is clean and well-preserved; the original grill cloth and gold piping remain intact, and the control panel and decals are in beautiful condition.
Recently serviced by our technician, the interior remains tidy with original UK transformers and period-correct components, and the cabinet retains its original JMI-era Vox 15-ohm speakers (Model 128/12, 20 watts each).
Sonically, this AC50 delivers bold, piano-like cleans with shimmering upper mids and tight, authoritative low end. When pushed, it produces thick, harmonically rich overdrive with classic British bite. Compared to an AC30, it offers greater headroom, stronger low-frequency response, and more punch while maintaining the unmistakable Vox chime and dynamic touch sensitivity that defined the British Invasion era.
