1934 Gibson L-50 Rare Round Hole version
Description
Rare round-hole variant of the L-50, made in 1934. FON Of 859 shows in Spanns Guide as an L-50 in 1934.
These are the coolest version of the 14 ¾ inch 1930’s L-50, and were made in small amounts
Bound top and back with elevated fretboard. Nice full rounder neck profile and it plays great. Set up with 11-gauge strings but will take heavier strings.
Top has a beautiful 1934 smaller sunburst. Original tailpiece and bridge.
Ladder braced, bracing looks great on the inside. The top curve on this is excellent with no signs of sinking as some of these round-holes have. Pickguard is long gone. Pickguard screw hole on the top has been filed it with wood, but is ready for a new pickguard when you have one. Small spot of damage to the top where the pickguard touched the top when installed.
Neck measures
First fret: .93
Ninth Fret 1.02
Neck profile is rounded at the shoulders with a slight V in the center.
Headstock is original with no changes to the tuners. Nut looks original. Fretboard is beautifully grained Brazilian Rosewood. This plays great and needs no neck reset. Truss rod adjusts as it should, it is missing the metal washer that goes between the truss rod cavity and the metal nut on the truss rod.
The frets are regular sized, and not the small ones you see 1931, it may have an old refret, but the frets are good.
Repaired but not cleated back cracks are solid but not perfectly flat on the back. Back, sides and heck have been over sprayed, top is original. The overspray is not terrible, and the natural checking still looks good in those areas. One glued fingerboard extension crack on the treble side.
No case, will be double boxed for shipping with the bridge removed and well packed.
Price listed is for bank wire transfer.
