The Problem with Vintage Pickguards:
The celluloid material used on Dove pickguards during the 1960s and 1970s is highly unstable. It is prone to spontaneous combustion and gradual disintegration when exposed to heat. Once this "gas-off" process begins, it cannot be stopped. This reaction often causes the surrounding top wood to appear scorched and can lead to burning or green corrosion (verdigris) on the nearby frets. In some cases, you may even notice moisture, similar to condensation, forming on the pickguard or the guitar body.

Why Choose Our Replacement?
While immediate replacement is essential to save the instrument, finding a pickguard with the correct dove inlay and engraved patterns is extremely difficult. Most modern replacements are thinner and smaller than the originals, leaving "tan lines" or exposed marks from the old guard, which often leaves owners of original vintage Doves unsatisfied.
Knowing that most 60s and 70s Doves will eventually face this issue, we have produced a pickguard that remains strictly faithful to the original specifications.

Master Craftsmanship:
Only the very earliest Dove models (1962-1963) featured hand-engraved designs.

Our pickguards honor that tradition:
Fully Hand-Engraved: Every pattern is meticulously carved by hand.
Original Specs: 2.5mm thickness with period-correct beveled edges.
Hand-Cut Inlays: The dove shapes are individually cut using a scroll saw.

Because these are 100% handmade, there may be slight individual variations in size, pattern, and thickness.
However, we are confident that the vintage look and feel are indistinguishable from the original.
