1933 Gibson Nick Lucas Special (Rosewood) w/ohsc

Description

1933 Gibson Nick Lucas (Rosewood) #91184 w/ohsc

The Nick Lucas is, as most vintage guitar enthusiasts know, one of the rarest and most desirable acoustic guitars ever made. But among Nick Lucas models this one is among the rarest, as it was one of the few that was made with rosewood back and sides. The rosewood back and sides, spruce top, mahogany neck, rosewood fret board, rosewood bridge, Grover tuners, and all interior bracing including the bridge plate appear original to the guitar. Weight is 3.8 lbs. The finish likely had some light overspray on the neck long ago but appears to be entirely original on the body, and shows some crazing. Overall the finish shows plenty of small nicks and dings and some light belt buckle rash on the back that is not into the wood. There is play wear on the top that is through the finish but the wood is not heavily worn. Fret board wear is minor and the frets have recently been leveled and re-crowned. The rosewood back and sides are crack free. The following work was done recently in preparation to sell the guitar: bridge plate repair to correct wear to the D and G pin holes, bridge reglue, reglue of all 4 back braces and several top braces, repair of three hairline top cracks. The neck angle is good, does not ever appear to have been reset and does not need it currently. The neck is 12 frets to the body with a 1 3/4" nut width, 2 3/8" pin spacing and 24 3/4" scale length. The barrel profile is carved with a gentle 'V' shape but is quite slender and comfortable, not at all chunky or fat. The neck is very straight under tension and the truss rod functions properly. The action measures 7.64" (.110") at the low E at the 12th fret and 4.5/64" (.070") at the high E at the 12th fret with ample saddle height available for adjustment. The guitar weighs in at an even 4 lbs. Sonically the guitar delivers what you expect from a pre-war Gibson...great projection and a very dry, woody, open voice. Very responsive to a light touch if played finger style yet it has the guts to stand up to a flat pick without becoming inarticulate. Message me for a sound file. Comes with a period case that may be original to the guitar...has a cool little badge inside the case lid from the store that is likely from the store that the case (and probably the guitar) came from that reads "The Drum Shop & Temple Of Music, State St. Springfield Mass." The lid of the case also bears the name and address of a former owner of the case and guitar. The case is in good condition, all of the hinges, latches and handles are present and functional. The outer cover has some ragged areas as well as the padding and lining, but nothing that compromises the protective function of the case. Shipped within the US only. Ships to US addresses only, no international shipping offered. Will only be shipped by expedited (air) service, no ground shipping. $29,500 + shipping. NYS buyers add 8% sales tax.
