~1950 Gibson LG-1 w/chip board case (original?)

Description

c. 1950 Gibson LG-1 w/chip board case (orig?)

This LG-1 has been around the block and while it is playable it could use a bit of work (more on that below) and is priced to reflect that. There are no cracks in the top, back or sides of the guitar, though the body shows plenty of handling and play wear. The interior bracing is all original including bridge plate. The back and sides are solid mahogany with a solid spruce top (ladder braced), mahogany neck, Brazilian rosewood fret board and bridge. The head stock has a very old break repair that is well done and very solid (see pics), nothing additional needed there. The bridge plate has chip out between the pin holes that could use some attention, and there is one top brace that has a 1 1/2" crack at the treble end that should also be repaired. The bridge shows just a hint of lift at the back edge. The neck is straight under tension but the action is at 8/64" at the low E at the 12th fret and 7/64" at the high E with little saddle remaining. In other words, the guitar is due for a neck reset. The playability is not terrible, particularly for a player who favors moderately high action (some do!). The frets show wear but there's life left, and currently there's no buzz anywhere on the neck. The guitar has the characteristic dry, woody and mid-rangy tone that the LG-1 is known for with lots of volume. Comes with what is likely the original chip board case, a bit ragged but it closes and the handle is present. $1400 plus shipping. Ships to US addresses only. NYS residents add 8% sales tax.
