1957 Gibson Les Paul Custom (Mickey Baker Wiring) – Black
Description
Pictured is an incredibly rare, factory original 1957 Gibson Les Paul Custom with the “Mickey Baker” wiring layout! Baker was best known as a studio musician and half of the musical duo Mickey and Sylvia, with the hit single “Love is Strange”. Baker’s music book series, “The Complete Course in Jazz Guitar,” has remained in print for over 50 years and is a staple for beginner students. Baker was one of the early, famous players of Gibson’s solid-body electric guitars, photographed multiple times with the two-pickup version of the Les Paul Custom. So, Gibson created a special version for him that felt like a Les Paul Custom, while borrowing the wiring layout from their ES-5. The knob where the selector switch is typically located acts as the master tone control, while the three lower knobs control the individual PAF volumes so that you can blend each in endless combinations. Along with the one made for Baker (and an earlier triple P-90 version made for Johnny Gray), Gibson produced a very small run of about 12, making them very hard to come by. The stop-tail holes were plugged expertly in black, so they are hardly visible. This particular instrument has certainly been played, but well cared for with playwear throughout.
