1968 Gibson Les Paul Standard | one piece body & headstock Goldtop

Description

Bay Area Vintage Guitars is pleased to offer a true piece of guitar history, optimized for the modern stage and studio: a 1968 Gibson Les Paul Goldtop.

This instrument represents the return of the "Holy Grail" Les Paul body style from the 1950s into 1960. This is a First-Year Reissue, built in the Kalamazoo factory with the same old-world craftsmanship and mahogany body that made the 1950s Bursts legends.
Condition, Playability & Player-Centric Enhancements

While this Goldtop drips with the authentic vintage mojo of 57 years—evident in the light scratches, dings, and beautiful original finish—it has been subtly optimized to serve as a superior guitar or the modern gigging and recording artist.

Alongside the original knobs, hardware, and tuners, this example features a fantastic professional refret that offers excellent playability far exceeding the original low factory wire. It is equipped with high-quality reissue P90 pickups that deliver the signature mid-range punch and dynamic sensitivity. The control cavities have been treated with conductive shielding paint. This addition drastically lowers the 60-cycle hum often associated with the P90s, delivering all the raw, articulate P90 growl without the buzzing interference from stage lights or studio monitors.

There are some unexplained drill marks in the pickup cavities, but they don't change the structure and playability.

Specs & Measurements:

• We rate the condition as very good based on the patina, condition, and playability.
