*L-5 model serial numbers are not always precise, as instruments were often manufactured over a period of years, with some bodies set aside for later completion. This example is the 16" model, generally regarded as more desirable than the later 17" version. It has undergone a Venetian cutaway modification, believed to have been carried out by Louis Gallo’s workshop. In addition to the cutaway, the fingerboard has been extended by five frets to increase the player’s range.
