1962 Gibson ES-335 Red
Description
There is kind of a wide range of 1962 ES-335's so make sure you are comparing apples to apples. It can be a dot neck or a block neck. The dot is much rarer as they only made dot necks for a couple of months in 1962. This one is a dot. It can have PAFs, patent numbers or one of each. This has two PAFs. It can have a blade neck or it can have a medium profile of .83" and .94". This has the medium profile. It can be a stop or a Bigsby or a sideways. This is a factory stop that had a Bigsby added after it left the factory. So, it's got most of the more desirable features. Perhaps the biggest plus is the fact that it's a red dot neck with a medium neck. Big neck red 59's are super rare (less than 15 made). Early 60's will have a medium neck but they are just as rare-just 21 made all year half of which are probably blade necks. There are loads of 61's but unless you're willing to deal with that super thin (and prone to issues) blade neck, they might not be exactly what you want. 62 dot necks have the medium neck profile but they too seem to be pretty rare as Gibson switched to blocks sometime in the late Winter of 62. If you want a red dot neck and you don't want a neck that is so thin that it tends to crack from simply tightening the truss rod (very common issue), your best bet if you don't have $70K or more to spend is find a 62. The last red 59 that sold went for over $160K. The last red 60 I had sold for $75K. This 62 is all original except for the Bigsby, the frets, the nut and one dot marker. This guitar never had the "Custom Made" plate. I added the pearl dots. The original stop tailpiece is gone but I will include a repro and repro studs so you can convert back to a stop. The case is correct Lifton but not original.
