1982 Gibson E-2 Explorer CMT Dark Sunburst
Description
We flipped when this E2 walked into the shop, even more so when the owner told me he had bought it from us in the late 80's! These are killer guitars, and this one looks great. E2 CMT, curly maple top from 1981! Ebony board, very little fret wear, Dirty Fingers pickups, plays and sounds great. It is a solid piece of wood at 10 pounds 6something ounces, but is pretty balanced and doesn't feel as heavy as some of those 9ish pound Norlin Les Pauls we have. It has been played, and has scuffs and dings, and is far from mint- it does look great, has a wonderful mojo and ready to boogie. It is stamped Second, so left the factory with a finish something somewhere, which is kind of immaterial after 44 years of use. No cracks or breaks, or repairs but one issue- when it came back in someone had wired a coil tap to the bridge pickup, drilled a hole in the guard and routed underneath the guard for a mini switch. We sent the original guard (included, in the case) to Tony at Pickguardian, he had the right material with the tinted edge, and he made an exact duplicate. We disconnected the coil tap off the bridge Dirty Finger, installed a new lead and wired it back to where it is stock. You would never know it to look at it, but there you go. It has a square hard case that looks right, and went with the guitar when we sold in in 1988 or 1989, and I would have said is the factory original case, but one of my closest friend (who is a big Dean collector) said he was pretty sure it was a Dean case from that era- doesn't say Gibson on the case, maybe came from the same manufacturer who was making cases for Dean/Gibson but that is the case, and seems to have been with the guitar since new. The handle was broken years ago, and has a jury rigged handle, which works. This guitar gets more looks than any other in the shop.
A note on shipping- we don't look to make a profit on shipping. We sent an Explorer to Oregon, from NC and it was a hair over 200.00, and we have to pay fees on what we get paid on shipping. Just sent a Goldtop to Oregon, right at 130.00 (we charges 100.00). west cost on a big box is expensive, and that sucks and I am sorry. East coast is less, and I would do a fair refund on any overage on shipping charges, just want to make sure we are covered.
Thanks for looking!
