~1929 Gibson A-0 w/original hard case excellent original condition
Description
c. 1929 Gibson A-0 Mandolin w/original hard case #88504
Recently found during an estate clean out, this Gibson A-0 needs a new home. The A-0 was Gibson's entry level mandolin during the late 20s-early 30s, differing from the rest of the line mainly in that there was no rosette or binding and the finish was a uniform dark brown all over. But in all other respects they were the same as Gibson's other mandolins...carved spruce top, maple back and sides, maple neck, ebony fret board and bridge. This one is entirely original and has none of the problems that typically beset so many of these old Gibson mandolins (no seam separations, neck problems, cracks, etc). The plating on the tailpiece and tuners even looks practically brand new. The only small issue is the small amount of crackling of the pickguard plastic in the center, where the support block is glued underneath. The area remains solid however and is not of concern. The frets show minor wear from 1-5 but the wear is not enough to have any impact on function at the present. The action is good, the mandolin plays well and the tone is excellent. Be sure to check out the sound file! The instrument comes with its original hard case that is in very good + condition, all latches/handle/hinges present and functional. An excellent centenarian at a most affordable price! $1150 + shipping. US shipping only, no international shipping offered. NYS buyers add 8% sales tax.
