1960 Fender Super Combo Amp - Model 6G4-A (Blonde/Oxblood) Blonde
Description
1960 Fender Super Amp 6G4-A – Blonde / Oxblood – Cupcake Knobs – Factory JBL Badge
Bay Area Vintage Guitars is proud to offer this exceptional 1960 Fender Super Amp, Model 6G4-A, a highly desirable early “Brownface” example featuring a rare transitional cosmetic package of blonde tolex, early oxblood grille cloth, white/blonde cupcake knobs, and a factory JBL logo; transformer codes confirm 1960 production, placing this amp at the very start of Fender’s blonde era and making it a particularly scarce and collectible configuration.
The 6G4-A Super Amp delivers approximately 40 watts via 5881 power tubes and a tube rectifier, offering warm cleans, rich harmonic depth, and Fender’s lush early vibrato circuit.
This amp retains its factory JBL grille badge, indicating it was originally ordered with JBL speakers (typically D-110F), a premium factory upgrade in the early ’60s. The speakers have since been updated to Jensens for improved reliability and excellent tonal balance with smooth breakup.
Details:
• Blonde tolex with early oxblood grille cloth
• Rare white/blonde cupcake knobs
• Original 2-prong cord
• Factory JBL grille badge
• Dual 10″ Jensen speakers (see photos for codes/models)
• 5881 power tubes, tube rectifier
• Harmonic vibrato
• Chassis S/N: 01815
A rare and historically significant early Fender combo with standout cosmetics and classic early 60s tone.
Condition
Very good vintage condition with honest wear consistent with age. The tolex shows natural patina, scuffs, and small marks from decades of use, with no abuse.
