1970 Fender Stratocaster – Sparkle Sunburst “The Mermaid”
Description
We know you haven’t seen anything quite like this 1970 Fender Stratocaster in its original “Mermaid” Sparkle finish… because we hadn’t either! The body, pickguard, and headstock of this instrument received a stunning, multicolor Sparkle finish. It looks to be Gold Sparkle hit with a blue-hued clear to create the “burst” effect. As if this weren’t enough, this guitar sports original gold hardware. Based on the folklore we received when we bought this instrument, this piece was made specifically for the trade show “Musikmesse” in Frankfurt as a stand-out display piece, which is why it is so eye-catching. This guitar has received a refret and a new nut, keeping it in great playing condition. It features the 14th week of 1970 pots, a 1969 neck date, and 1970 pickup dates. The decal and patent number also date to 1969, with an approximately ’67 serial number. In our experience, this is not uncommon for Fender to show guitars with special features like this one. This one-of-a-kind piece still retains its original case and a cool old strap, too!
