1959 Fender Pro Tweed
Description
When I was an up and coming rock star back in the mid 1960's, the speaker of choice for most was a 15" preferably a JBL. The single and Dual Showman amps were one of the most coveted and available with a single JBL 15" or, if you had the money, a pair of them. The Vibroverb was popular as well thanks to Stevie Ray. Fast forward 60 years and I'm no longer an up and coming anything and 15" speakers are no longer desirable. I am not and never have been a rock star. But 15" speakers are still truly excellent guitar speakers but folks today seem to prefer 10's and 12's made mostly by Jensen (P10R and Q) and Celestion (G12M). All excellent speakers but there is more to it now. A tweed Fender Super or Bandmaster with two or three 10" speakers will cost you $16000 to $20,000 in this condition. The Pro with its out of fashion 15" will sound as good for a little more than half the price. The amp section is exactly the same-only the OT is different (8 ohms vs 4 ohms). Don't like a 15"? I've had Mojotone make me a 2-10" baffle and it works great. Fenders can handle the impedance mismatch with ease. This doesn't include that baffle but Mojotone will make one for you as a special order. I like it with the 15" but you do have this option and it's completely reversible. This amp is 99% original. There appear to be a few caps changed and it looks like the preamp tube sockets may have been upgraded. The AC cord was upgraded to three pin and the original is included. The handle has been replaced with a handmade reproduction but the original is still functioning (if a little tired) and is included as well.
