1963 Fender Precision Bass Refin w/ New Modern HSC - Sunburst

The 1963 Fender Precision Bass sits at one of the most desirable points in the instrument's entire production history. By this year, Fender had firmly settled into the slab-body rosewood-board era's mature form — Brazilian rosewood fretboard with clay dot inlays, and the split single-coil pickup that defined the sound of recorded music throughout the 1960s. At 8 lbs 3 oz, the bass is on the lighter end for an alder-body P of this era, which translates directly to comfort on long gigs and a livelier, more resonant acoustic character that carries through into the amplified tone.

The neck is maple with a Brazilian rosewood board radius'd at 7.25" and a genuine C profile that measures .856" at the first fret and 1.09" at the twelfth. The necks of this era have a comfortable, medium-depth feel that plays fast for a bass neck without feeling thin or modern. Nut width is 1-11/16", scale is the standard 34", and the original frets are intact and have plenty of life left. The pickup reads 11.53k — healthy output for a vintage Fender split coil, and well within the range you'd expect from an original 1963 wind.

The bass was refinished years ago. It appears that the pweron who did the work signed the neck heel and dated it to 1984. They did a pretty good job, stripping the bass without sanding it. The color isn't all that accurate, but it is better than others I've seen for sure. The control and pickup cavities and the neck pocket were stripped too. Enough remains in the neck pocket and pickup cavity to see remnants of the original sunburst finish and factory marks.

As for the parts and hardware - here is what is original: Pickups, pickguard/screws, bridge, tuners, bridge, knobs, neck plate, output jack, and strap buttons. The pots are changed. One is a 1964 and one is a 1966.

The bass plays perfectly and it has the vintage feel and tone of an original that sells for twice as much. This is your next gigging and/or recording machine!
