2021 Collings 290 Single Cut Custom Charcoal Frost

Description

Lots of builders offer their take on the iconic Les Paul Special but, in my opinion, nobody does it better than Collings. Offered is this terrific Collings 290 Single Cut which was completed in January of 2021 and is in near mint condition.

Specs for this very versatile and heavily-optioned guitar include: a solid Honduran mahogany body with comfort contours, a custom color (Charcoal Frost) high gloss nitro lacquer finish and a total guitar weight of just 7.6 pounds; a marvelous short-scale (24-7/8") Honduran mahogany neck with medium/chunky (.86"-.95") C-profile; a rosewood fretboard with optional binding, a 12" radius, medium stainless steel frets and a 1-11/16" nut; a Kluson ABR-1 bridge and stop tailpiece; Gotoh tuners with ivoroid buttons; and for electronics, pickups reminiscent of the setup found on Gibson’s John Lennon Les Paul Junior including a Lollar Charlie Christian in the neck position and a P-90 Dog Ear at the bridge with 50’s-style wiring, DiMarzio 500K pots and Jupiter Vintage Yellow caps.

This guitar is flexible enough for any music genre. Crank up the gain and she screams with overdrive. Roll back the volume and the tone is clean and smooth making it perfect for jazz. Of course, as a Collings, it is built and plays superbly. It is set up with a fresh set of Elixer .10’s.

This instrument is in near mint condition with only some extremely light scuffs on the pickguard to keep me from calling it mint. The impregnable stainless steel frets are flawless. It comes with its original Ameritage case in similarly nice condition with the original paperwork.

With the optional neck binding, pickups, the stainless steel frets and the custom finish a new example of this guitar would cost you approximately $5,800 but you can grab this near mint 2021 example for more than $2K less than new.
