2006 Blazer & Henkes Rosewood SJ (Deja vu) Sunburst
Description
SN: 4. Earlier build from Blazer & Henkes that will be 20 years old next year! It’s not the fourth guitar B&H made, rather, Willi tells me, it is the fourth guitar from their first batch of Gibson SJ reproductions. It’s the only one made with rosewood back and sides -- like legendary batch 9112 from Gibson in 1942. B&H hand selects the finest materials available and adheres to traditional ways of building. The top is moon harvested Alpine spruce that grows very close to Tubingen. The rosewood has straight grain that shows some figuring in the wide bout. Hot hide glue and pure nitrocellulose finish are used throughout. It’s a bit like making sushi – obtain the highest quality ingredients and assembling them in the traditional ways to balance the flavors, textures and tactile experience. Inside, the X-bracing and two tapered tone bars strongly resemble the architecture of the wartime SJ & J-45s. The condition of this one is excellent-plus with just a few tiny dings here and there. Tone-wise, it’s a very easy guitar to get a groove on and there’s enough power to take a break. Willi did a great job of reproducing that great wartime Gibson neck. Fun to play.
